In August we celebrated Johnny Appleseed by not only reading all about him, but planting our own apple trees and making our own "pot hat".
The children had a wonderful time playing in the sunshine during school and in aftercare.
In Mrs. Chinnock's Class one of their favorite units was all about Dinosaurs. They cracked open dinosaur eggs, made dinosaur feet, wore dinosaur hats. Our curriculum "Our Father's World", does a wonderful job addressing dinosaurs from a Biblical perspective.
For letter B we made Body vests which were fun and helped the children understand the wonderful way God knit them together.
In September we were honored to have the Yavapai Tribe come and teach us their history and customs. They taught the children a song and poem in the Yavapai language and let them touch and hold artifacts from the Yavapai tribe. It was a fun day and our own Rico was very proud because one of the women presenting was his own aunt. The teachers decided to do a week long unit based on native Americans in the United States where they made teepees, dream catchers, rain makers, drums, head dresses, face paint and even painted pictures with ground berries for paint. They made their own paint brushes by crushing the end of a stick with a rock. We ended the week by making Indian fry bread and having a picnic out front with Native American foods.

| Mrs Dougan's son Chad, who works for Prescott Fire Department, brought his firefighter buddies to teach us fire safety. |
We had such a great time learning about some of the most valued members of our community. We love the way our Police and Fire Departments work to keep us save and out of harms way. It is so wonderful to think of the sacrifice they are willing to make to keep our little ones safe. The children loved the stickers and coloring sheets they left with us too!
